Our 3 Favorite Washington Hikes Of 2016....So Far
Ledges, Lakes, Lookouts, And Lots More!
As the end of the year approaches, we've taken a moment to consider a few of our favorite hikes in 2016. While the rain may have begun in the PNW, there's still time to get out and find some favorite hikes of your own. Here are three that topped our list this year!
#3 - Rattlesnake Ledge
Although it was a cloudy and rainy day, the view from the ledge was still magnificent! This roundtrip hike comes in at about 4.5 miles with an elevation gain of 1,160' making it of moderate difficulty. Located relatively close to Seattle, this is a popular hike for people of all skill levels. Children and pets are also among the many that come for the beautiful scenery at top. We must warn you though, use extreme caution while on the cliff, it's a long drop down!
If you're interested in giving this hike a try, have a look at our Rattlesnake Ledge post with more photos, details, and what to expect.
#2 - High Rock Lookout
This hike should most certainly be saved for a clear, sunny day as it provides 360 degree views as far as the eye can see. It's main attraction is an old, historic fire lookout perched atop Sawtooth Ridge. To its north is the awe inspiring, enormously in-your-face, glacier covered Mt. Rainier. If you continue looking you'll be able to spot the Olympic Mountains, Mt. Adams, Mt. Saint Helens, Alder Lake, and more. This is another moderately difficult hike with a roundtrip of 3.2 miles and an elevation gain of 1,365' but it is worth every drop of sweat!

#1 - Naches Loop Trail
Naches Peak lies on the eastern border of Mt. Rainier National Park. This trail circles the base of the peak in a 3.2 mile loop with an elevation gain of only 600'. This was one of the easiest hikes we've done all year long but also one of the most rewarding treks due to the beautiful views of waterfalls, valleys, lakes, peaks, animal life, wildflowers, and much more. This hike was peaceful and relaxing. Although we didn't see much of Rainier due to nearby clouds hovering over the top of it, the rest of the day was amazing. This is certainly a hike that the whole family can enjoy.
We teamed up with KÜHL for this trip report so have a look at Naches Loop Trail: Short and Oh So Sweet on their blog for additional photos and details.
